Description
Mounds of bladed pink rhodochrosite crystals cover this beautiful specimen. The rhodochrosite crystals are a fine colour, with the slightly frosted appearance typical of many specimens from the American Tunnel. The American Tunnel is part of the mine group known as the Sunnyside Mine – the American Tunnel itself was driven after World War II to connect underground mine workings and at that time it intersected the Sunnyside Mine. This specimen likely dates to the 1960s. I acquired it from Rock Currier – it was formerly in the personal collection of Rock’s good friend, Robert Bartsch. As usual with rhodochrosite, the colour is particularly nice under halogen lighting (in these photos the colour is balanced to daylight). This is a gorgeous, colourful display piece – looks great in the cabinet!
