Description
Detailed Description
This is such a great piece for calcite morphology. It hosts discoidal crystals intergrown with scalenohedral crystals, and the one scalenohedron has a perfect discoidal crystal cap. The calcite crystals are transparent. The scalenohedral crystals are sharp and lustrous, and the discoidal ones have sharp and lustrous prism faces, with much more complex terminations that have a frosty appearance thanks to their complexity. In excellent condition – no damage. An amazing combination of calcite crystal forms.
About these Calcites
This specimen is from a 2014 find at the Nikolaevskiy Mine – in the same pocket and at the same time, calcite crystals were forming in both scalenohedral and discoidal forms, sometimes on the same crystal. This was not a large find and there were few truly high quality ones – and most specimens were badly damaged. These are unique Dal’negorsk specimens.
