Description

This is an incredibly unusual tourmaline – it is almost completely botryoidal. The crystal groups are spheroidal and the terminal crystal faces are rounded with a great glossy lustre throughout. This piece comes from an area famous for “mushroom”-like tourmaline growths, where the elbaite crystals grow in parallel to subparallel aggregates of crystals and flare out wider at the top. but the botyroidal habit on this specimen is different and particularly uncommon. In very good condition, with incomplete balls at the periphery – in these incomplete balls one can easily see the radiating crystals that form the elbaite balls. John acquired this specimen directly from Dudley Blauwet, who acquired it in Myanmar. A pretty amazing specimen for the species.
