Description
This is a great piece – it is a stepped arrangement of fluorite cubes that grew over an underlying fragment of an octahedral fluorite. After the fluorite crystallization was complete, there was a phase of pyrite (small cubic crystals) and after that, a few calcite crystals formed along one side. A close inspection of the back and underside hint at the sequence of these events – the underlying fragment has recrystallization textures all over, along with micro pyrite and calcite on top of those, so the events relating to the first fragment finished first, before the later phases. In excellent condition, a couple small chips in among the pyrites, not noticed when viewing the piece overall, as the pyrites are so bright. An eye-catching display specimen, both for its form and because the pyrite crystals are so lustrous.
