Description
The beauty of this one is in the hundreds of radiating sprays of goethite crystals included within the quartz crystals, and it makes an excellent interesting quartz specimen as a result. The quartz crystals are sharp, lustrous and in great shape, forming an aesthetic crystal mound.
I could happily lose myself in this one with a loupe, scope or camera for hours. The largest goethite sprays reach about 4mm and the largest quartz crystals are up to 2.3 cm. The goethite crystals range from a golden to dark brown. Because the goethite needles are enclosed and suspended within the quartz crystals, they are rather well protected and undamaged. A few tips express at the surface of the quartz crystals, and there is a second generation of goethite dotting the quartz crystals, all visible with magnification. In excellent condition – from the display angle, you can see rubs at the tips of two quartz crystals, none at the top, and you have to look for the two. Around the sides and back the crystals are incomplete where the group was originally attached to the matrix. It stands perfectly for display as photographed.
A super specimen, with excellent contrast between the quartz and goethite.
