Detailed Description
This is a striking specimen, hosting a very large (2.4 cm) cluster of howlite crystals. These crystals are up to 0.9 cm, which is very large for the species (very rarely do they exceed 1 cm). The howlite crystals are well defied and have good lustre, with some brilliantly lustrous termination faces. In excellent condition, a couple of missing crystals. The relief on this one is really great – the whole cluster stands up over the anhydrite. An impressive howlite!
About These Howlites
The howlite crystals from Bras D’Or Lake, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia are the best known – to date, this is the world’s only locality to produce howlite crystals, other than a California locality with microscopic ones.
This place can be a little rough… which is a very good thing in some ways, and less so in others!
