Description
Detailed Description
This specimen hosts a large (1.9 cm), striking cluster of radiating howlite crystals on anhydrite. The howlite crystals are sharp, lustrous and have a smoky internal colour, giving nice contrast with the pale anhydrite. In very good condition, a few missing crystals. This piece stands out on the shelf due to the contrast – it is a very good display specimen of crystallized howlite.
About These Howlites
The howlite crystals from Bras D’Or Lake, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia are the best known – to date, this is the world’s only locality to produce howlite crystals, other than a California locality with microscopic ones.
This place can be a little rough… which is a very good thing in some ways, and less so in others!
