This is a unique howlite specimen. Howlite crystals from this locality generally occur in clusters that exhibit to some degree the crystal habit of radiating out from a central point. This 1.9 cm cluster of howlite crystals is does not have that habit, as the crystals are more jumbled – it looks like a snowball made of sparkling howlite crystals with no obvous arrangement or group habit. The howlite crystals are sharp and lustrous. In excellent condition, no damage. Truly distinctive and unusual.

The howlite crystals from Bras D’Or Lake, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia are the best known – to date, this is the world’s only locality to produce howlite crystals, other than a California locality with microscopic ones.

This place can be a little rough… which is a very good thing in some ways, and less so in others!
