This is an attractive specimen of the uncommon mineral kulanite (first described from Rapid Creek and named for the geologist who initiated interest in the phosphate crystals of the area, Alan Kulan). This piece features sharp green blades of kulanite, with colourless sparkling crystals of fluorapatite. With magnification, one can see that there are small fluorapatites perched all over the kulanites, and this has undoubtedly served to protect the fine, thin kulanite crystals. In excellent condition.

About these Yukon Phosphates
Discovered in the 1970s, the occurrences at Rapid Creek have become known as among the best localities in the world for phosphate species. At Rapid Creek, many of the minerals are the finest known for the species. The specimens in this update are from the 1980s and 1990s, the heyday period for specimen discoveries at Rapid Creek.
