Detailed Description
This miniature hosts beautiful deep blue twinned lazulite crystals to 1.4 cm. These lazulites are sharp and glassy, with small sparkling crystals of quartz and siderite in association. In excellent condition, with minor chipping in a couple of spots. I’m including a few photos, so that you can compare them, particularly the reflections off faces (it’s the only way to tell which is chipping and which is actually internal blue reflection beneath an intact face/corner – many are just internal). The lowest large crystal on the matrix shows some skeletal growth across a face, not damage. Gorgeous!
About these Yukon Phosphates
Discovered in the 1970s, the occurrences at Rapid Creek have become known as among the best localities in the world for phosphate species. At Rapid Creek, many of the minerals are the finest known for the species. The specimens in this update are from the 1980s and 1990s, the heyday period for specimen discoveries at Rapid Creek.
