Rutile

Specimen # 102323
Mineral: Rutile
Location: Rutile, Graves Mountain, Lincoln Co., Georgia, USA
Size: 4.0 x 3.2 x 3.1 cm

Description

From the world’s preeminent rutile locality, this is a gorgeous, sharp, rutile crystal. It has brilliant lustre with mirror-bright faces. On close inspection under strong light, the crystal has internal glints of red, as is typical for Graves Mountain rutiles. The crystal is doubly-terminated, with some contact with the pyrpohyllite host matrix on the back and underside, but unike many Graves rutiles this one is fully developed all- around. In excellent condition – a chip on a downward-facing pyramidal face, and tiny chipping at the back of the left-hand side termination peak – this is a superb quality one of these. The fourth photo is taken looking down on the termination from above. A fantastic rutile crystal.
