Description
This unique specimen is comprised entirely of vesuvianite, ranging from dark magenta-purple to very light green. Most of the piece is made up of interlocking tiny grains and crystals that formed up against one another. In the middle of the piece is a cavity hosting a nest of gorgeous small jewel-like vesuvianite crystals. From a distance, the piece is a post of colour and texture in the cabinet, and up close, the crystals in the middle are beautiful.
The vesuvianite crystals are mostly green with terminations coloured by the magenta hue. As with many minerals, the hue of this specimen varies depending on the light source – the photo shows it in daylight colour, and under halogen or similar light it is a warmer colour. The crystals are glassy and highly lustrous. In excellent condition – the crystals that are complete are undamaged, while other crystals on the piece are only partially present or partially deveolped. Stands perfectly as photographed.
