Description
This is a pretty specimen with snow-white translucent quartz pseudomorphs after platy barite crystals. The surfaces of the pseudomorphs sparkle with hundreds of tiny quartz crystal faces – this gives them a look as though they were coated with morning frost in early winter. The sphalerite crystals across he base of the piece provide good contrast. The sphalerite crystals themselves have been coated with a dusting of chalcopyrite, and it is visually interesting because not all faces were coated – the coating was selective. There are microscopic seligmannite crystals on the sphalerite, and microscopic realgar with some of the quartz. So, although this specimen is aesthetic for the pseudomorphs and the sphalerite, there is a lot to look at, with a little extra magnification.
