These are beautiful, sharp crystals of hubnerite on brilliant, clear needle quartz crystals from Mundo Nuevo. The hubnerite crystals are a little different from most of the Mundo Nuevo hubnerites from these finds – typically the crystals tended to be a little blockier and simpler in morphology. These ones are slender, with excellent fine modification faces on the terminations and fine striations on the prism faces. The lustre on these hubnerites is very bright. The three main hubnerites crystals (and smaller ones as well) are pristine.

This piece has an extra item of interest. There is a fourth hubnerite crystal that developed strangely – I took the third photograph so that you could see it off to the side of the others – it is the one standing on the right (the specimen does not sit naturally this way, you have to tip it back to see it from this angle). This fourth one has some sort of arrested development (maybe some quartz that is no longer present could have inhibited crystal growth, although it’s hard to see where that quartz would have attached so it’s not clear to me that’s what happened). It could also be some sort of etching – really not sure what was going on here. This fourth hubnerite has a perfect termination.
