Datolite

Specimen # 100368
Mineral: Datolite
Location: Charcas, Mun. de Charcas, San Luis Potosí, Mexico
Size: 7.3 x 5.4 x 4.1 cm

Description

This specimen features two large interlocking datolite crystals, the largest of which is 5.2 cm. The internal colour varies from yellowish-green to a cool-toned pale green, and the lustre on this one is mostly matte, with a few glassy faces as well. Small pyrite crystals and tetrahedrite-coated chalcopyrite crystals occur on, partially submerged and completely frozen inside the crystals at the top of the specimen – and this part of the crystal is transparent enough that it is easy to see the sharp little pyrite cubes suspended inside the datolite – very cool. There is damage at the bottom of the larger crystal and there is a contact behind the right side of the upper crystal, but neither is a factor when displayed as photographed. Nice datolite with such cool inclusions.
