Description
This specimen is an attractive, aesthetic combination of dark tourmaline with lavender lepidolite crystals and white bladed albite crystals. The elbaite itself measures 2.9 x 1.7 cm and might best be described as funky. The crystal morphology is such that the classic tourmaline triangle is clearly evident but truncated by the irregular development of the crystal sides. And then the colour is completely curious for a tourmaline – zones of brown, zones I would describe as clear with a hint of pale lilac, and even some hints of green. It is transparent in some spots and then otherwise translucent to opaque. The tourmaline is damaged at the back, as shown in one photo, but it can be displayed with this part out of view. Really different and neat – pretty wild colour for a tourmaline.
