Barite

Specimen # 100854
Mineral: Barite
Location: La Côte d’Abot, Saint Saturnin, Puy-de-Dôme, Auvergne, France
Size: 5.3 x 4.7 x 3.6 cm

Description

A sharp, dark-golden sceptred French barite with excellent form and beautiful subtle crystallization features, including the full sceptre and a similarly-raised front prism face. Many of the crystal faces have bright, glassy lustre. At certain angles, internal phantom faces are visible. In excellent condition, no damage (there are a couple of tiny natural indents along an upper crystal edge – they are not damage). As is the case with all detached crystals from this find, the underside shows a crystallization texture indicating that the detachment from the rock occurred at the end of the crystallization. A classy barite crystal!

(Note: the first photograph is strongly lit, to show the interior of the crystal.)
