Thomsonite

Specimen # 102611
Mineral: Thomsonite
Location: Cap D'Or, Cumberland Co., Nova Scotia, Canada
Size: 5.7 x 2.8 x 2.0 cm

Description

A very different specimen – these are balls of green thomsonite crystals on sparkling analcime with pale pink stilbite. There was native copper in this same seam, and the green colour is due to the presence of copper. The thomsonite balls (thomsonite-Ca) are comprised of crystals radiating from the centre, and a partial ball on the back of the piece illustrates this perfectly. The thomsonite crystals are packed very tightly and are small – individuals are not easily discerned with a loupe. In very good condition – two small shallow nicks on one ball, minor relative to the overall specimen. A great thomsonite from the small 2020 find.
