Description
Twinned rutile crystals in matrix from the world’s preeminent rutile locality. These rutile crystals are sharp, complex and well-defined. They have good lustre and are in very good condition considering they were embedded in solid rock and include pyrophyllite contacts. One crystal at lower right is missing and the one at lower left is not complete, but the incomplete section is either at the bottom/under or facing behind the specimen as displayed (facing down in the first two photos, and in the third photo it is oriented at the top facing back). Specimens from Graves Mountain are usually with little or no matrix – this piece with multiple crystals in matrix stands out. From the Pete Richards collection, he collected it personally on December 6, 1986.
