Description
A beautiful curved stack of green fluorapatite crystals from the Sapo Mine, with a second less pronounced stack intertwined with it. This specimen is quite interesting in that the crystals have more pronounced pyramidal faces than is typical for this find. In excellent condition, a tiny chip in one terminal face. The fourth photo shows the specimen’s fluorescence under ultraviolet light. This is a really nice specimen from the famous 2006 pocket.
In his article on the Sapo Mine in The Mineralogical Record (July-August 2009, Vol 40:4), Luiz Menezes describes the complex morphology of the fluorapatites from the pocket. This specimen is what Luiz describes as “Habit 3,” with crystal stacks intersecting at approximately 60 degree angles.
