Description
Clusters of legrandite crystals on cream-coloured smithsonite from the Flor de Peña Mine, which is the type locality for legrandite – the first specimen was collected there by Louis C.A. Legrand, after whom the mineral was named. These legrandite crystals are sharp and lustrous with good colour, in radiating crystal aggregates. In excellent condition, minor imperfections are seen with magnification. The main cluster (measuring about 1 cm) at the top/end of the specimen is spectacular!
From the Tracy Kimmel collection, acquired originally from Jordi Fabre (label accompanies the specimen).
The definitive article on this locality is by Peter and Lauren Megaw, in the Mineralogical Record, Special Issue – Mexico VII, Vol. 47:5, Sept-Oct 2016.
