Pyrrhotite, Galena

Specimen # 102827
Mineral: Pyrrhotite, Galena
Location: El Potosí Mine, Santa Eulalia Mining District, Chihuahua, Mexico
Size: 3.9 x 3.5 x 2.6 cm

Description

A very cool specimen of galena crystals and pyrrhotite crystals that grew contemporaneously, such that the growth of each sometimes interrupted the growth of the other. At first glance, it actually looks as though it is pyrrhotite partially replaced by galena, but this is because in the galena crystals and pyrrhotite crystals happen to be  closely aligned in places. The crystals of both minerals are sharp and bright, and the intergrowth is super. From the collection of Tracy Kimmel, she acquired it from The Arkenstone (their label accompanies the specimen). A gorgeous piece!
