Chabazite

Specimen # 102908
Mineral: Chabazite
Location: Wasson's Bluff, Cumberland Co., Nova Scotia, Canada
Size: 3.4 x 2.6 x 2.4 cm

Description

Detailed Description

An unusually-coloured chabazite for the locality, this specimen is faintly pinkish. Collected in 2020, it is a textbook penetration twin. In excellent condition as displayed (no damage) and incomplete at the back where it was attached to neighbouring chabazite in the pocket before becoming detached. With magnification, one can see gorgeous lustrous growth hillocks on the crystal surfaces. A really different specimen for Wasson’s Bluff – a great piece!

About The Chabazites From Wasson’s Bluff

Wasson’s Bluff is world famous for colourful chabazite crystals, ranging in colour from pinks to various hues of orange and all the way to dark red. The chabazites from Wasson’s Bluff have been collected since the mid-19th century, and production of truly fine specimens has been sporadic. Although several of the productive zones have been exhausted as the basalt has eroded away to the underlying sandstone, occasional finds have produced excellent specimens.

Please Note: the colour representation in the still photographs has been carefully calibrated and adjusted to approximate an accurate rendition of this specimen in daylight (shade). The colours in the video are not similarly adjusted.
