Description

A gorgeous bright galena from Germany, featuring highly lustrous cuboctahedral crystals. The largest crystal measures 2 cm, which is large for this locality. Some crystal faces exhibit slight curvature. Usually the still photos are the most accurate sense of a specimen on this website, but this one really comes through in the video, as it’s a very bright, silvery piece.

A typewritten description from a prior dealer accompanies the piece. It was collected in June 2007 from a large pocket (2m x 40-60 cm) at the bottom of of the quarry. This pocket was filled with carbon-rich black earth, hosting the galena. The backside of this specimen is a hollow and under magnification one can see minute sphalerite aggregates in this hollow.

From the Tracy Kimmel Collection – among her interests, Tracy had a very fine suite of worldwide galena specimens. In excellent condition, stands perfectly for display as photographed. A beautiful German galena!
