Detailed Description A wonderful specimen of bright, lustrous hematite blades, together with a Cumberland-habit quartz crystal. The crystals are sharp! In excellent condition – the quartz crystal is slightly  contacted on the rear of the left-hand termination (as oriented in the first photo), not damaged. From the Pete Richards collection, he collected it in July […]

Detailed Description A vug of brilliant lustrous bladed hematite crystals – these are sharp! In excellent condition. From the Pete Richards collection, he collected it in July 1984. About these Chub Lake Hematites The Chub Lake prospect has been known since the 1850s, and fine specimens were collected there (and at area hematite mines in […]

In very good condition, some incomplete crystals. From the Pete Richards collection, he collected it in July 1984. Detailed Description A large hemisphere of sharp hematite blades on matrix. It’s quite astounding this specimen is in such remarkable condition, as the hematite crystals are very thin. There is some minor quartz (I believe) among the hematite crystals and this has helped to support the hematite blades. This piece is a bit different from […]

Detailed Description This is a one-of-a-kind specimen from Chub Lake – it features three mounded groups of tightly-packed bladed hematite crystals – two at the top of the piece. The individual crystals are relatively small, giving the mounds a true black colour, with lots of sparkle. Almost like black velvet with metallic sparkle. Of course, […]

This is a really nice piece from an obscure locality that has produced relatively few fine mineral specimens. It features a Cumberland-habit quartz crystal on sharp specular hematite blades. The quartz is sharp with good form and lustre, and it is translucent enough to make out the hematite underneath it at one end – it […]

Metallic irridescent blue covellite blades grouped together. These are sharp and lustrous, with some intact crystals protected in the vug (others are incomplete). From the Pete Richards collection, acquired in 1998. The locality is attributed to Summitville, where this habit is known. About Pete Richards (click here)

This piece from the mica quarry at Black Mountain, Maine hosts sharp parallel bladed crystals of columbite in feldspar-quartz. The crystals are lustrous with nice contrast with the matrix. The complete crystals are in very good shape with minor chips. There is a partial columbite present as well. From the Pete Richards collection, he personally […]
