Analcime

Specimen # 101148
Mineral: Analcime
Location: Amethyst Cove, Kings Co., Nova Scotia, Canada
Size: 6.1 x 4.8 x 4.8 cm

Description

This specimen hosts a remarkable 3.3 cm crystal of analcime – the crystal is sharp, lustrous and translucent, with some small areas of transparency in places. This crystal is in exceptional condition (no damage to the eye, and with magnification there is one small rub on an edge). Small sharp light brown stilbite crystals are in association.

As is usual for Nova Scotia zeolite occurrences, some of the crystals in this vug did not have enough room to develop well in all directions and were packed tight against one another, so the lower and rear analcime crystals on this specimen are not complete, with some contact and damage. However, they are darker and lower, and are the background for this one superb crystal. Ths base of the specimen has been ground so that is stands for display as photographed.

The main crystal is an exceptionally fine crystal for this species!
