Anatase

Specimen # 200594
Mineral: Anatase
Location: Kharan District, Balochistan, Pakistan
Size: 7.2 x 4.4 x 2.6 cm

Description

Two beautiful dark blue crystals of anatase (0.7 cm) on sparkling albite. These are sharp and lustrous anatase crystals, and they look black unless examined more closely with good light (they are certainly blue). In excellent condition, no damage. I note that the crevice in the matrix is not a crack that runs through and is not a contemporary feature – it happened as the rock cooled and crystallized. The specimen has been cut with a saw underneath and behind, so it is nicely proportioned and sits perfectly for display. From the Steve Szilard collection (#910), these are very nice anatase crystals!
