Azurite

Specimen # 200702
Mineral: Azurite
Location: Tsumeb Mine, Otjikoto Region, Namibia
Size: 6.8 x 6.5 x 4.0 cm

Description

This is a large Tsumeb azurite crystal! The crystal is complete and undamaged – it grew in a tight space where it only had enough space to develop as it did. Intergrown with cerussite lower on the piece, this crystal is 7.9 cm tip-to-tip. Under strong light, the intense azure blue colour is readily apparent, and there are flashes of wonderful blue under the front crystal face (facing, as displayed). The faces have great lustre, with many fine striations.

In excellent condition, pristine all around the top and sides (a couple of small chips where there is contact with the cerussite – these are lower on the piece and don’t stand out). From the Gerald Panneton collection, a great, large Tsumeb azurite!
