Barrerite

Specimen # 103202
Mineral: Barerrite
Location: Rocky Pass, Kuiu Island, Petersburg Borough, Alaska, USA
Size: 4.6 x 4.2 x 4.0 cm

Description

This is a very fine specimen of the uncommon zeolite mineral barrerite, from the only locality that has produced larger crystals. The barrerite crystals are sharp and lustrous and the largest measures 3.7 cm – they are in excellent condition with no damage. They host laumontite crystals as well (these seem not to have been stabilized – which must be done at the time they are collected – and so they are very fragile). This specimen is from my personal collection – I acquired it from Dan Weinrich a number of years ago now. An excellent classy specimen of Alaskan barrerite!
