Bournonite

Specimen # 100484
Mineral: Bournonite
Location: Les Malines District, Saint-Laurent-Le-Minier, Gard, Languedoc-Roussillon, France
Size: 4.9 x 3.6 x 2.2 cm

Description

This is a nice group of intergrown bournonite crystals. Steel grey, with a silky metallic lustre and the appearance of a subtle patina. There are incomplete crystals around the periphery where it was removed from the surrounding rock. This is a good specimen from a contemporary classic locality.

Most surfaces on the underside/back of this specimen are not fresh, with minor crystallization textures visible with magnification, and other mineralization present (including microscopic pyrite crystals), indicating that the specimen detached from the host rock sometime late in the crystallization sequence at the deposit.
