Calcite

Specimen # 103100
Mineral: Calcite
Location: Bigrigg, Egremont, Copeland, Cumbria, England
Size: 3.1 x 2.9 x 2.6 cm

Description

This piece features two superb, gemmy scalenohedral calcite crystals. I rarely use the word gemmy, but these calcites are essentially transparent, and the colour and texture showing through are coming from the backsides of the crystals. In excellent condition – with magnification one can see a tiny rub on the back of the taller crystal (ie. opposite side from the display angle). From the collection of Canadian collector John Dutrizak.

This is a wonderful thumbnail of a true English classic!
