Detailed Description

Each of the two larger calcite crystals on this specimen is twinned twice – once on either side. The main crystal is particularly bright under the lights, translucent to transparent with good lustre. In excellent condition overall, with chipping on the left hand twin on the larger crystal. Very interesting twinning on this piece.

About these Yushnoe Mine Calcites

The Yushnoe Mine is a newer mine and to date has produced virtually no fine mineral specimens. In 2015, a pocket of calcite crystals contained some beautiful twins. This was not a large or prolific find at all, and almost all specimens had some damage. They show excellent twinning, with the same form as the now-classic twinned yellow calcites from the Sokolovskoe Mine, Rudniy, Kazakhstan.
