Detailed Description

This is an exquisite twinned calcite. It is sharp, lustrous, has good transparency and beautiful golden colour. In excellent condition – no damage. The crystal is complete all around and formed on matrix, so the one side shows that contacting and it sits underneath. This is a killer!

About Elmwood Calcites

First opened in the 1970s, the Elmwood Mine (the Elmwood-Gordonsville-Cumberland mining complex) has produced some of the world’s finest calcite crystals, many of which are twinned. Over the years, the miners referred to the large orange Elmwood calcite crystals as “footballs”, and they referred to the clear gemmy calcites like this one as “jewels”.
