Elbaite Tourmaline

Specimen # 200500
Mineral: Elbaite Tourmaline
Location: Stak Nala, Gilgit-Skardu Road, Northern Areas, Pakistan
Size: 3.7 x 3.2 x 2.2 cm

Description

This is a sharp, colour-zoned tourmaline crystal with albite crystals in association. The colour grades from a dark internal green zone to a lighter green zone and a beautiful light pink cap. This crystal has a great termination – highly lustrous, featuring a hexagonal pinacoid with growth patterns. In excellent condition, no damage.

With magnification, this crystal provides extra interest. Just internal from the right-hand edge (as oriented in the first photo), in the middle-colour green zone, there is a small included crystal. Looks to me to be a muscovite prism. Very cool.

From the Pete Richards collection, a fine colour-zoned tourmaline with a super termination.
