Elpidite

Specimen # 101372
Mineral: Elpidite
Location: Elpidite, Mont Saint-Hilaire, Quebec, Canada
Size: 4.5 x 0.5 x 0.4 cm

Description

Detailed Description

This is an amazing crystal for this species (see below). It is sharp and crisp, almost as large as the one photographed in the Mineralogical Record from this pocket (Mont Saint-Hilaire issue, 1990, 21:4). It tapers from its maximum dimensions near the termination. It is in excellent condition, no damage, a contact near the base. Superb.

About these Elpidite Specimens

Elpidite is quite rare globally, and relatively few high-quality specimens are known. At Mont Saint-Hilaire, elpidite has been encountered periodically, almost always as bundles or jumbled groups of intergrown crystals lacking well-defined terminations. However, a 1990 pocket yielded the best terminated single crystals of elpidite known, and these specimens are from that pocket.
