Description
Sharp glassy spray of fluorapophyllite-(K) crystals on crystals of stilbite-Ca. At the core of the cluster the fluorapophyllite is a nice pale green and the tips of the crystals are clear and transparent. The fluorapophyllite group itself measures 5.2 x 3.3 x 3.2 cm. The spray is in excellent condition – one crystal tip at the bottom is cleaved, cleanly (a couple of minor associated crystals elsewhere on the matrix are also, but not distracting). Actually, most specimens from these finds have a cleave or two, but usually they go completely unnoticed since the cleavage is perfect and just looks like a termination – you need to look very closely to discern the difference.
This was from a series of finds a few years ago during construction of water wells in the region, and specimens from these find are now harder to come across. This one was acquired at the time of the find by Canadian collector Gil Benoit, and has been in his collection ever since. Beautiful display piece!
