Galena, Sphalerite, Chalcopyrite

Specimen # 103106
Mineral: Galena, Sphalerite, Chalcopyrite
Location: Konski Dol Mine, Madan Ore Field, Smolyan Oblast, Bulgaria
Size: 4.7 x 3.9 x 2.5 cm

Description

This is a superb miniature – one main galena crystal with small side-car crystals, together with fantastic razor-sharp black sphalerite crystals and chalcopyrite crystals. The sphalerite crystals are lustrous and exhibit spinel-law twinning. The chalcopyrite crystals have surfaces that are almost velvety-looking. In excellent condition, no damage, only contact is around the back.

This specimen was mined in 1994-95.

From the Tracy Kimmel Collection, she acquired it from Ross Lillie (North Star Minerals label included) and Ross had acquired it from the Nikola Nokov collection.  Among her collecting interests, Tracy had a very fine suite of worldwide galena specimens.

This is a killer!
