Description
This specimen features superb twinned, glassy gmelinite crystals to 2.4 cm – very large for this species. The lustrous crystal faces exhibit the triangluar stepped pattern typical of Bay of Fundy gmelinites.
The seams from which these are collected are very tight and narrow, often with little space for open crystal development – so specimens are thin plates, and contacts among the crystals on the plates are the rule. However, this specimen is free of contacts other than along the bottom. In excellent condition, no damage. In behind the top crystals, one is missing where this specimen was attached, it’s not visible as displayed, not distracting from any angle.
Collected in 2011, this is a top Nova Scotia gmelinite.
