Description
Gmelinite is typically found in small crystals in very narrow seams, so this is a pretty remarkable specimen for the species. This entire specimen is gmelinite (with a thin rind of basalt on the back) and it hosts crystals to 1.5 cm. The crystals are sharp and glassy with top lustre – lots of bright triangles. Some show twinning and some seem not to. The piece is in very good condition, but it does have contacts with incomplete crystals in two areas – at left and at lower right – where the other side of the seam pinched in. Such is the nature of the occurrence of Bay of Fundy gmelinite.
An impressive cabinet specimen of excellent gmelinite crystals.
