Description
An absolutely amazing sharp 2.6 cm (!) crystal of gmelinite stands up in the centre of this specimen. Beautiful pale pink, with bright glassy lustre. The gmelinites formed against basalt matrix, within a rather tight seam – so the crystals are not developed around the back where the basalt was, and there is a small contact at the lower corner of the large crystal (not distracting, just lacking the same lustre as the rest). The gmelinite crystals exhibit beautiful intricate triangular surface growth patterns. The missing crystal area at the bottom of the piece (middle) do not distract from the main crystal and associated crystals, which are in excellent condition. This is a brilliant gmelinite miniature!
From the collection of well-known Nova Scotia collector Terry Collett, this specimen was collected in 2008.
