Description

This is a spectacular hematite-rutile specimen, top calibre for the locality. The hematite crystal is complete, sharp and brilliantly lustrous, like a black mirror. The rutile, which has grown epitactically on the hematite, includes some robust terminations – this is very uncommon from Novo Horizonte, where the rutile is almost always fibrous or incredibly thin. In excellent condition, no damage. I note that the original label gives the locality name that was formerly used for these specimens (it changed when the local counties were reorganized).
