Description
A classic botryoidal hematite from the Florence Mine. The colour ranges from dark steel grey to iron red metallic, and the lustre is mostly satin-metallic, with some more lustrous areas at the one end (upper right, as photographed). In excellent condition, no damage (incomplete botryoids around the periphery where this was attached. Underneath/behind, one can clearly see the radiating internal form of the hematite balls. Supported to stand as photographed, this piece looks great in the cabinet.
From the Tracy Kimmel Collection, this specimen has a label from Ross Lillie (North Star Minerals). It has a much older paper number affixed to the back, with European-style number one, but there is no more information about the original European collection in which it resided.
A super display specimen of a UK classic!
