Detailed Description
This is a large, broad ilvaite specimen featuring a slight “wheat-sheaf” habit. The ilvaite crystals have brilliant lustre, sharp faces and edges, and great composite terminations comprised of a myriad of parallel faces.
In excellent condition – no damage to the ilvaite is obvious – there are tiny edge rubs at two corners of smaller crystals, but hard to make out without magnification. (Small grey quartzes at the bottom are incomplete.)
This is a super display specimen of ilvaite.
About These Ilvaites
Although the finds at Huanggang have clearly produced ilvaite specimens of a calibre and in numbers previously unknown for the mineral, many Huanggang ilvaites are quite chipped or more severely damaged – these ones are excellent. Over the course of the ilvaite finds, some characteristics of the crystals have varied quite substantially. In particular, some are much sharper than others, and some are much brighter than others.
