Lazulite

Specimen # 101318
Mineral: Lazulite
Location: Rapid Creek, Dawson Mining District, Yukon, Canada
Size: 6.2 x 5.1 x 2.3 cm

Description

Detailed Description

This piece features gorgeous deep blue twinned crystals of lazulite up to 1.2 cm. The crystals are complex, sharp and highly lustrous with dark blue glints under the cabinet lights. There are small siderite crystals in association. In excellent condition, no damage – the areas of light blue are recrystallized, where some lazulites are incomplete or were naturally broken at some point before the end of the crystallization.

The lazulite crystals on this specimen are amazing.

About these Lazulites

Discovered in the 1970s, the occurrences at Rapid Creek have become known as among the best localities in the world for lazulite. These occurrences are very remote and the costs are high, so specimen collection efforts are few and far between, and it is hard to obtain fine specimens. These fine lazulites are from a recent find, in 2015.
