Detailed Description

This specimen hosts a section of a narrow lazulite vein that opened up into a cavity filled with sharp, deep blue lazulite crystals. The lazulite crystals are twinned, with lustrous crystal faces and internal glints of blue and greenish blue under good lighting. The crystals in the cavity are in very excellent condition, one is chipped, and at one side, some incomplete lazulites show recrystallized surfaces. The remaining, lighter-coloured blue on the specimen is crystalline lazulite that has recrystallized surface areas, but there are no complete crystals in this material and at least some of it was likely formed in an area with too little space for crystals to grow.

About these Lazulites

Discovered in the 1970s, the occurrences at Rapid Creek have become known as among the best localities in the world for lazulite. These occurrences are very remote and the costs are high, so specimen collection efforts are few and far between, and it is hard to obtain fine specimens. These fine lazulites are from a recent find, in 2015.
