Description
This spectacular find of löllingite at Huanggang completely redefined the species, producing far and away the finest löllingite specimens ever found. This cluster is one of the best I’ve ever seen. The löllingite crystal groups are elongated, thick aggregates of blades with bright silvery lustre and several of these bladed groups are interlocked sculpturally to form this piece. Occasional silver arsenopyrite crystals occur on the löllingite – because they are also silver and lustrous, they blend into the löllingite but are easily seen for their sparkle of a different shape and are easy to find on close inspection. From the display side, one transparent fluorite is also visible, nestled in the centre of the valley between löllingite blades. In exceptional condition (one can find minor rubs on close inspection, but they are inconsequential relative to this piece).
An aesthetic, world-class specimen of löllingite – a killer!
