This is a plate of gorgeous ludlamites with wonderful green colour and as lustrous as ludlamite gets. The crystals measure up to 1.2 cm, and there is some separation, with some matrix showing through as well. In excellent condition – one incomplete crystal at the lower margin. So great for the mineral, this is a super specimen!

About These Ludlamites

The first specimens of vivianite and ludlamite from Cabeça do Cahorro were exhibited at the Denver show in September 2014. Although some people were taken with the large vivianites, I was most inspired by the possibility of great ludlamites, even though the first specimens were small and not particularly attractive. As the years passed, the quality eventually got increasingly better, and these specimens from 2023 are superb quality for the species – they have great colour, they are sharp and glassy, and so lustrous the ludlamite crystals look wet!
