Ludlamite

Specimen # 103167
Mineral: Ludlamite
Location: Cabeça do Cachorro, São Gabriel da Cachoeira, Amazonas, Brazil
Size: 12.9 x 6.5 x 4.1 cm

Description

Detailed Description

A super cabinet specimen featuring ludlamite crystals to 1.5 cm perched across the matrix, with nice separation among the crystals. The crystals are sharp and incredibly lustrous (they really look wet), with great green colour. In excellent condition, a couple crystals at the periphery are incomplete. Great ludlamite!

About These Ludlamites

The first specimens of vivianite and ludlamite from Cabeça do Cahorro were exhibited at the Denver show in September 2014. Although some people were taken with the large vivianites, I was most inspired by the possibility of great ludlamites, even though the first specimens were small and not particularly attractive. As the years passed, the quality eventually got increasingly better, and these specimens from 2023 are superb quality for the species – they have great colour, they are sharp and glassy, and so lustrous the ludlamite crystals look wet!

Please Note: the colour representation in the still photographs has been carefully calibrated and adjusted to show an accurate rendition of this specimen in daylight (shade). The colours in the video are not similarly adjusted.
