Description

Detailed Description

From the classic 1991-92 find at Balmat New York, this is a gorgeous specimen of cubic magnetite. These are jet-black, lustrous metallic crystals with faces like black mirrors. The crystals from Balmat were typically dominant tetrahexahedron faces with minor cube faces – this specimen is unusual because the cube faces are dominant. In excellent condition, very minor natural contacts from the original enclosing matrix (anhydite-calcite-halite-talc). A superb magnetite specimen!
