Natrolite

Specimen # 102513
Mineral: Natrolite
Location: Natrolite, Mont Saint-Hilaire, Quebec, Canada
Size: 5.5 x 4.6 x 4.2 cm

Description

Detailed Description

A beautiful specimen featuring one prominent diverging group of natrolite crystals above the rest. The natrolites are sharp with good lustre and glassy lustrous terminations. Under short-wave ultraviolet light, the natrolite crystals are green with bright green terminations. In excellent condition, if I search hard I can find two very minor missing terminations from the display angle, none at the horizon. This is a gorgeous specimen.

About these Natrolites

Mont Saint-Hilaire is one of the world’s most famous and most important mineral localities, with over 430 mineral species. Many are micros and some are occasionally found as display specimens. MSH has produced nice natrolites periodically over the past few decades – the natrolites from this pocket are particularly elegant, with excellent crystals. In addition, they fluoresce a beautiful bright green under short-wave ultraviolet light.

For a long period dating back over 10 years, MSH was completely closed to collecting, and although it remains closed to general collecting (with only limited controlled access), happily, the company is actively coordinating to allow the preservation of specimens once again. These natrolite specimens are from one such recent collecting effort to preserve specimens from this amazing place.  This lot was acquired together with David K. Joyce.
